Painting & Coating Estimating Services

Build a painting bid from finish schedules and measurable surfaces rather than building floor area alone. We separate wall and ceiling surfaces, doors, trim and specified coatings, keeping substrate, preparation, coat system and access assumptions visible for your pricing review.

Scope and measurement basis

What the painting & coatings takeoff can include

Choose the items required for your bid. Quantities are grouped by the available drawing references, material or assembly, location and unit. Pricing is added only when it forms part of the agreed package.

Translate finish codes into separate surface and system groups

Room finish schedules are reconciled with plans, elevations and wall sections. We identify the substrate and finish code before totaling the surface area. Wall heights, opening deductions, columns, soffits and exposed structure can change the scope substantially even when two rooms have the same floor area.

Paint purchasing quantities need the supplied product coverage, coat count and application assumptions. We keep those conversions separate from the measured area. Existing-coating removal, patching, primer, protection, lifts and occupied-area restrictions are identified when documented. Where surface condition is unknown, the estimate records a clarification instead of presenting a repair allowance as a verified field condition.

Scope interfaces to settle before pricing

  • Confirm patching and substrate repair versus the drywall or concrete contractor's work.
  • Identify factory finishes and surfaces excluded from field painting.
  • Separate protective coatings, fireproofing and hazardous-material remediation when outside the requested package.

Choose the output your bid team needs

Quantity-only takeoff

Use an itemized workbook to apply your own supplier quotes and crew rates. Keep quantities, units, locations, drawing references and measurement assumptions separate. Agree the PDF markup and summary format with the proposal.

Priced trade estimate

Build on measured quantities with the agreed material, labor and equipment inputs. Identify supplier exclusions, quote dates, access assumptions and contractor markups so your team can review the bid basis before submission.

Revision or alternate review

Identify the original drawing issue and the changed package. Keep additions, deletions and alternate quantities visible; clarify whether repricing and a revised scope letter are included in this assignment.

For workbook organization, see the illustrative deliverable layouts. These layouts show the format; project-specific samples will be identified separately when available.

Painting & Coatings estimating questions

Floor area alone does not establish the paintable surface. We measure walls, ceilings and other specified items using heights, openings and finish references, keeping each surface group reviewable.
